Tension Headaches

Stress is a major factor for developing tension headaches.  Poor postural habits from sitting at a computer for long periods is one type of stress that can cause tension headaches.  "Computer postures" may result by straining the muscles of the neck, shoulders and upper back. These muscles are known to have referral patterns into the head, specifically the forehead, temples, top of head, base of the skull and behind the eyes. Do you feel a tight band-like squeeze on your temples or forehead, which gets worse in the afternoon? Some of us will find a relief with active stretching, movement and being away from the desk. Unfortunately, for some this may not be enough to give relief.  As Registered Massage Therapists (RMT's), one of the techniques (modalities) we use is Myofascial Trigger Point Release which can decrease, eliminate or prevent tension headaches.  We are also trained to guide you through home care exercises to deal with symptoms today and help prevent relapse in the future.  If you have any questions or need help contact us, we are here for you.
